Challenges and Opportunities

The University of Miami Institute for Advanced Study the Americas provides limited financial support for events related to the Americas that are organized at the University of Miami.

Sponsorship grant support is available to University of Miami faculty and students organizing seminars and symposia at the University on topics related to the Americas. These types of grants are provided for public events.

General Guidelines
  • Support is provided for up to five events per month.
  • Average funding granted is USD 200 per event.
  • Limited opportunities exist for funding amounts up to USD 500.
    • Requests for amounts up to USD 500 will be given special consideration on a case-by-case basis; however, preference will be given to the standard funding amount.
    • Preference is given to interdisciplinary seminars/symposia involving more than one of the colleges/schools of the university.
Rules
  • Requests must be received four weeks in advance.
  • All sponsored events must be linked to events page of the institute's website
  • No academic program or person will be granted more than two sponsorships per academic year
  • Event must take place on campus (Coral Gables, Medical Campus, or Rosenstiel Campus)
Final decisions will be made the 1st of each month or the closest business day.

Requesting organization will need to submit a one- or two-page report summarizing event.

The institute's sponsorship must be acknowledged on promotional material and any publication resulting from the event. 

Publications resulting from the event must be submitted via MIA@miami.edu
