Latin American Challenges: The Role of the European Union

A seminar and publications organized by the Jean Monnet Chair of the University of Miami European Union Center, and co-sponsored by the Miami-Florida European Union Center-a partnership with Florida International University, the Jean Monnet/Erasmus Program of the European Union, and the University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences, Department of International Studies, and Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas.
The seminar addressed the Venezuelan crisis and its impact on the community of Latin American and Caribbean States plans, the consequences of the Lima Declaration and the suspension-delay f the EU-CELAC summit, the future of Latin American security and economics, as well as regional integration and the role of the European Union.

Thirty years ago, a group of improbable heroes came together on a mission that was both medical and moral, and, by everyone’s estimation other than their own, highly unlikely to succeed. Their goal was simple but daring: to make high quality healthcare available to everyone, even in the world’s poorest countries. Fighting entrenched diseases, political and bureaucratic machinery, and the charity-industrial complex itself, these crusaders forced the international community to embrace the idea that health care must be a basic human right in every society, and went ahead to provide it. In doing so, they have changed the lives of millions of people across the globe.
Told through interviews, rare archival material and on-the-ground contemporary footage featuring Dr. Paul Farmer (legendary founder of Partners In Health), Dr. Jim Yong Kim (maverick President of the World Bank), and Dr. Agnes Binagwaho (controversial Health Minister of Rwanda), the film is an emotionally charged, dramatic and inspiring journey with these brilliant and headstrong heroes.

Corporate Sustainability Symposium: Green Finance

As we continue to realize the impact of a more values-based approach to public savings and private investment, the globalization of green finance has become integral to the development of a sustainable financial system. While financial services are critical to economic growth, profits alone are not enough to meet our basic needs. Green finance complements the tradition of socially responsible investing to create a dynamic sector within the wider context of corporate sustainability.
The event was organized by the University of Miami School of Business Administration at the Storer Auditorium where a panel of local and industry experts discussed green finance.
Americas Conference Series with Andres Oppenheimer

Andres Oppenheimer conversed with two key ministers from Argentina: Treasury Minister Nicolas Dujovne and Transportation Minister Guillermo Dietrich. In separate dialogues with Oppenheimer and the audience, both were asked, among other things, about the Argentine economic situation, the investment prospects, the October legislative elections, and the possibilities of implementing the economic agenda of President Mauricio Macri after the legislative elections.
Latin American Forum: Advancing Access to Healthcare

This one-day forum was hosted by the Center for Health Sector Management and Policy at the University of Miami School of Business Administration along with the University's Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas, and was sponsored by Boston Scientific. The forum followed a series of similar conferences focused on improving the access and delivery of health care in Latin America. The 2017 meeting was designed as a one -day specialized educational program, bringing together thought leaders, from both public and private health agencies, to discuss key topics, challenges and opportunities affecting access to health care in Latin America.
